Kokkikartano’s critical environment operates in DCI Micro Data Centers

Snellman’s Kokkikartano business is expanding, and the new factory expansion required a solution to ensure that the new critical control system and factory automation would work under all conditions. Snellman’s IT Operations Manager Per-Erik Finell was responsible of the project and was looking for a comprehensive solution that would be fail-safe and work even during short power outages.

DCI Solutions Ltd proposed the DCI Microdata Center and its version with a compact 7U cooling unit, Conteg CoolSeven, inside the server cabinet. A pair of indoor counterparts is installed outside to condense the heat generated by the servers. The capacity of the system scales from low cooling power up to 7 kW. The server cabinet is sealed, so the system cools only the ICT equipment, not the whole room, making it very energy efficient. The system is automated and can be managed remotely for security.

For short power outages, both ICT equipment and cooling are backed up by a UPS system with sufficient battery capacity to ensure operation for the necessary backup time. The UPS system is housed in the same server cabinet as the servers and communications, ensuring optimal operating conditions. The system also includes a gas extinguishing system and the necessary accessories such as PDUs, cable managers and temperature and humidity monitoring.

To ensure critical operations, there are two server environments and to ensure that at least one of them is operational in any possible crisis, they are in different buildings in the Kerava factory area.

“The fail-safe and manageable DCI Microdata Center is an excellent solution for Kokkikartano’s critical operating environment,” says Per-Erik Finell.

DCI’s total scope of supply included 2 pcs of DCI Microdata Centers including a server cabinet, cooling solution with indoor and outdoor units, power distribution, power backup with UPS system, gas extinguishing system, environmental monitoring, and emergency opening system.
